‘Technical Fault’ Sees Students In Malta Receiving Maintenance Grant Twice
A number of students in Malta received their maintenance grant twice after the payment system suffered technical faults.
Students affected by this are now being contacted by their respective banks to refund said payment.
Post-secondary students are entitled to receive an initial grant of around €300 at the beginning of every scholastic year, followed by a monthly stipend of around €90.
University students, on the other hand, are entitled to receive a one-time grant of either €465 or €698 at the start of their studies, as well as an annual initial grant of either €565 or €798. Apart from this, University students also receive a monthly stipend of €159 or €90, the sum of the grant depending on the type of course being followed.
“The Department of Education, after discussing this with the Central Bank, informed all affected students, who also received a notification informing them that their banks will be contacting them so that the students affected will refund the double payment to their respective commercial banks,” a spokesperson from the Education Ministry told Lovin Malta.
“The Ministry for Education and Employment regrets any inconvenience caused to the affected students.”
