This Is The Event That Made The Maltese Switch Off Porn Last Year

Maltese men often joke about loving football even more than they love sex, but it seems there is now some evidence to prove the theory. If we can equate porn with sex, at least.

It turns out that Pornhub users from Malta dropped by 15% during last year’s Champion’s League final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. The drop in users from Malta on May 28th was only rivalled by the drop from the football fanatics in Iceland (17%) and the home country Spain (19%).

Malta’s 15% drop is equivalent to the decrease registered during the 2013 Eurovision final when singing doctor Gianluca Bezzina was representing the island. To provide another comparison, Pornhub saw a 15% slump in traffic from the US during election day, when Donald Trump was elected president. Conversely, when the Maltese elected Joseph Muscat in March 2013, Pornhub had seen an increase in traffic of 5%.

The figures emerge from Pornhub’s latest Year In Review, which showed that once again traffic to the site dropped all across Europe during Eurovision, by 11%.
