Jamala, the winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest and ambassador for peace, is coming to Malta to perform on 8th July.

She will be performing at Malta Enterprise’s upcoming event, ‘One Love, Celebrating Peace’, with the aim of commemorating peace during these turbulent times.

Having had to flee her country following the Russian government’s invasion of Ukraine, Jamala has been going around the world spreading the message of peace.

The event is going to be dedicated to all of the Ukrainians that had to flee their country, as well as a fundraiser for the school which is being constructed in Ethiopia in memory of the late Rebecca Zammit Lupi.

Jamala had won the song contest with the song 1944, which she had written herself, about Joseph Stalin’s mass deportation in 1944 of the entire ethnic Tatar population from Crimea.

Jamala was particularly inspired by the story of her great-grandmother Nazylkhan, who lost one of her daughters while being deported to Central Asia.
