Watch: ‘A Slippery Slope’ Archbishop Scicluna Criticises Euthanasia Legalisation Proposal

Archbishop Charles Scicluna has criticised the government’s proposal to legalise voluntary euthanasia for terminal illnesses, warning it could be the start of a slippery slope.
In a video message, Scicluna said the government is proposing “helping people kill themselves”.
“It isn’t guaranteeing that no one will interfere, because we know this is a slippery slope.”
The Archbishop urged people to participate in the ongoing public consultation process, which will run until 2nd July, and tell the government that they would rather go down the route of palliative care.
“I urge you to tell the government that you don’t want to kill yourself but that you would rather have all the necessary help so that when we face death, which we all will one day, we can do so with dignity and support.”
Malta is proposing that adult patients who have been given six months to live can request voluntary euthanasia, subject to checks by two medical experts, a psychiatrist, and a review board.
