Watch: Alex Borg Wants To Test Four-Day Work Week In Public Sector

PN leader Alex Borg said he believes Malta could adopt a four-day work week and is willing to test the concept in a number of government departments.

Interviewed on NET TV show Crux, Borg said that this concept should be tested in the public sector before potentially expanding it to the private sector.

“I won’t immediately impose it on the private sector,” he pledged.

“As a testing ground, I’ll start implementing it with certain government departments. If it works, and it turns out that productivity, efficiency and returns have increased as a result of a four-day week, we could then start slowly implementing it in the private sector through incentives.”

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana has repeatedly expressed skepticism about a four-day week, warning that such a move could only be justified if productivity increases among the Maltese labour force.
