Watch: Bernard Grech Explains Why PN Filed New Lawsuit ‘To Bring €400 Million Back’
The Nationalist Party has filed a lawsuit aimed at forcing State Advocate Chris Soler to try and return money that the government had paid Vitals and Steward to the public coffers.
PN leader Bernard Grech and MP Adrian Delia, who filed the case today, said they want the State Advocate to “bring the €400 million back”.
It must be noted that this figure has been contested by the government, which insisted the €400 million includes money paid on staff salaries.
“We opened a lawsuit to declare that the State Advocate must autonomously act without waiting for Robert Abela’s instructions,” Grech said. “The State Advocate is there to represent the whole state and not just Abela. We asked that the case be heard urgently, because this is a matter of urgency.”
Delia noted that the Court of Appeal recently found complicity between the government and Vitals-Steward to defraud the nation.
“Right after the Court of Appeal’s declaration, we called for political responsibility to be shouldered, for the €400 million to be returned to the public, and for those who committed wrongdoing to face justice… three logical and simple things for a normal country.”
