Watch: Ħandaq Students Suspended As Qormi College Vandalism Insta Video Goes Viral

A group of secondary students from Qormi’s St Ignatius College were suspended after a video showing them trashing classrooms and even setting fire to a bin went viral on social media.
The video, which was an initially posted as an Instagram story, was actually following a popular TikTok trend of why girls presumably weren’t talking to the male students.
What followed next was a compilation of the students at school, with a mix of harmless acts like running through corridors while wearing to masks to full on vandalism as they damaged school property.

Education Minister Clifton Grima has already reacted to the video, telling the Times Of Malta that while the boys “made a mistake”, the ministry decided it would “think outside of the box”, making the students produce a number of videos for the school in a sort of “community service”.
Meanwhile, the Malta Union of Teachers seemed to have a less lenient approach, with president Marco Bonnici saying it was “worrying to see such scenes which are clearly in breach of the school’s discipline policy”.
Going on to say MUT has “zero tolerance towards misbehaviour”, Bonnici’s stance was definitely different to the minister’s, who clarified that “school is not there to punish but to educate, so if you have talent, use it for something exemplary”.
What do you make of this video, and who do you find yourself agreeing with more when it comes to the reaction to the young students’ actions?
