Watch: ‘I Want The Murderer To Receive The Heaviest Punishment’ – Pelin Kaya’s Father Speaks Out

Pelin Kaya’s father, İsmet Kaya, has expressed his wish for his daughter’s killer to receive the heaviest possible punishment, while expressing his faith in the Maltese and Turkish justice systems.

“I think that a murderer deliberately crashed and killed her with his car,” Kaya told reporters after his daughter’s funeral in Turkey on Sunday.

“I trust the Maltese justice, the Turkish justice. I want the murderer to receive the heaviest punishment,” İsmet said in an emotional statement.

Pelin was tragically killed in Gżira last week after being run over by driver Jeremie Camilleri. Camilleri, who tested positive for cocaine and alcohol, has been charged with her murder, and is pleading not guilty.

Speaking to the press, Pelin’s father recounted the final time he spoke to his daughter, on a video call just one day before her murder.

“She called me and said, ‘I love you so much, dad’. I sent her roses, but my roses faded.”

“It’s a murder. I want to say the heaviest words, but I can’t. Don’t let other lives burn,” he said, breaking down in tears.

“The last time we said goodbye at the airport, she turned to me maybe 10 or 15 times, as if saying goodbye,” Pelin’s father continued.

“As if she would never come back again. She couldn’t really come either. When I looked at her face, I felt something was going to happen.”

Meanwhile, Pelin’s mother – who was reportedly barely unable to speak in the last days, let alone travel down to Malta to grieve her daughter – hugged the 30-year-old’s coffin as she lamented that “if a mother has lost her baby, that mother is dead too now”.

“Let the Maltese people know that this is murder,” Pelin’s mother continued. “Let them punish him.”
