Superintended for Public Health Charmaine Gauci will be addressing a press conference at 12:30pm, hours after Malta recorded its first cases of the UK COVID-19 variant.
The news was broken by Health Minister Chris Fearne in a tweet earlier today.
“UK #coronavirus variant registered in Malta. Cases are isolated and contacts quarantined. Stay vigilant, stay responsible, stay safe,” Fearne wrote.
Though it was initially found in the UK, the variant has also been found in other countries like Denmark and France. The variant is known to be more transmissible than the current COVID-19 strain, though is not known to be deadlier, according to initial studies.
