Watch: Maltese Children Celebrate As They Smash It And Win Big At San Remo Festival

Maltese children celebrated in Northwestern Italy as they won a number of awards at the international GEF festival in San Remo.

The festival is an international event celebrating creative arts in schools, where performances took place at the famous Ariston Theatre and the Casino Theatre.

Young representatives from Maltese dance and theatre schools and took home awards in music, dance and theatre.

Electric Echoes, a band of students from the Malta Visual and Performing Arts School were winners in the music category for bands, after they opened for the final festival night on Saturday.

The drama troupe from MVPA also took home an award from the Theatre category for their performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Meanwhile, Maltese students from Centrestage secured first place in the category for Musical Theatre, with a medley of songs from Matilda.

Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire, a dance school in Qormi, smashed the dance category, emerging as the overall winner after they came first in the classical ballet, Spanish and Folk categories.

Marsaskala’s Mandy Dance Academy received a special mention from judges, being the only school to participate in the Fantasy category.
