Watch: Maltese Host Gets Chip Installed In His Hand So He Can Easily Pay For Shopping
A Maltese show host took a step into the future and became one of the first on the island to install a microchip beneath the skin of his hand.
“This is a chip implant that will allow me to pay at any shop or restaurant in the world. It won’t be in my wallet, mobile or watch. It will be implanted in my hand,” Gadgets host Ian Busuttil Naudi said before the procedure.
With the chip installed, he’ll be able to pay for items while out shopping by simply tapping his hand on an establishment’s POS machine.
“I’m very excited, I’m not that good with needles – but I’ll try and be brave,” he said before a small incision was made on the back of his hand.
In an easy operation undertaken by Dr Kurstein Sant, and Orthopaedic Surgeon, the chip was placed under the skin, between two particular bones. After a few stitches, the procedure is complet.
“It’s just a little pressure, like a gentle push.”

With the chip firmly in place, Gadgets ended by telling viewers to keep following the show to find out what Busuttil Naudi ends up buying with his newly installed chip.
He’ll be joining a small but growing community of technological body modification enthusiasts in Malta; back in 2008, another Maltese man began his own journey with chipping, eventually leading him to have three different chips installed in his body for various uses.
