Watch: Robert Abela Announces New Batch Of Cheques For Vulnerable People Next Month
Robert Abela announced that several people will receive a government cheque in the mail in May, a month before the European Parliament and local council elections.
“Many of you here already received the first cheque as part of the additional COLA mechanism, next month you will receive your second cheque,” Abela told a political activity yesterday.
This cheque, which is meant to help vulnerable households cope with the soaring of living, was announced in the Budget last year. The first payment was handed out to an estimated 95,000 households at the end of 2023, and Abela confirmed yesterday that a second instalment will be made in May.
People are set to receive between €100 and €1,500 over both payments and is fully payable by the government, with the private sector not having to fork out a cent.
Abela also announced that the government will next month pay parents a €500 grant if their children enroll in post-secondary education.
