Watch: Robert Abela Orders New Airline To Bring Back Maltese Requirement For Cabin Crew

Prime Minister Robert Abela has confirmed he instructed KM Malta Airlines to reintroduce knowledge of the Maltese language as a requirement for cabin crew staff.
“When I fly on our national airline, I expect the crew to know how to speak Maltese,” Abela told a press conference today. “I gave the airline a clear direction of what I am expecting and they assured me that this requirement will be met.”
The Prime Minister also criticised the exclusion of Maltese from signs in certain government projects and said he instructed the Principal Permanent Secretary to ensure the language is used at all times.
“Let’s value and safeguard this language, which gives us a unique identity,” he said. “I won’t stop stressing that we should do our utmost to safeguard Maltese, be proud of it, and widen its usage among the population as much as possible.”
