Watch: Salt Bae’s Mentor Debones Meat Flamboyantly In Mrieħel, Then Discusses Malta-Turkish History In Mdina
The Turkish butcher who taught the notorious Salt Bae for over a decade is in Malta slicing up flanks of meat and delving in the countries’ shared history.
Cuneyt Asan, who goes by the over-the-top nicknames of ‘Fastest Butcher in the World’ and ‘The Professor of Meat’, attended the opening of Ottoman + by Posh Turkish in their new restaurant in Quad Towers, Mrieħel.
During the opening, he gave a speech detailing how happy he was to be in “beautiful Malta” – before showing the attendees some of his skills.
With flair and precision, Asan cut into the meat presented to him, throwing pieces in the air and stabbing them with his knife, making it clear where Salt Bae got his style from.

But that wasn’t all that Asan got up to.
The day after the opening, he uploaded videos of himself exploring the island’s historical sites, including Valletta and Mdina.
And while in Mdina, he even delves into the deadly history Malta and Turkey shared, going back to the Great Siege of 1565. However, Asan only shows love and respect for Malta, even hugging the local he is speaking to at the end of their conversation.
