Watch: ‘There Is No Crisis’ – Robert Abela On Deputy Prime Minister’s Resignation

Prime Minister Robert Abela insisted the government isn’t in crisis after Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne resigned today in the wake of criminal charges.
“You are the one saying there is a crisis,” Abela told a NET journalist outside Castille this evening. “There is a crisis in the Nationalist Party, which is intensifying over time, but there is no national crisis.”
“The government is totally focused on convincing the public of the importance of voting on 8th June to ensure we have the localities and Europe we deserve, and to safeguard national sovereignty.”

Abela said “the country has lost” as a result of Fearne’s resignation, which he confirmed despite a last-ditch appeal by the Prime Minister to change his mind.
“It lost a person who is capable and has integrity, and people will understood more once the judicial process is over.”
Fearne said he is stepping down as a sign of respect to the institutions, although he stressed that he believes the courts will find him innocent.
Asked by Lovin Malta whether this means that other public officers who don’t follow Fearne’s example aren’t respecting the institutions, Abela said he “has already expressed his stance on that point”.
