Watch: ‘They Always Tell Us No’ – Abela Calls Out Opposition To Major Projects
With the Msida Creek project set to commence in the coming days, Prime Minister Robert Abela called out the constant opposition to major infrastructural projects.
“Every major infrastructural project we’ve undertaken has consistently faced strong resistance,” Abela stated during a political rally in Msida, highlighting opposition to projects such as those in the Central Link, Marsa, Kappara, and Santa Luċija.
“They always tell us no. They don’t believe it is right to invest in infrastructure, but that was in their days. We implemented these projects and improved the situation. Did we find the solution? No, and traffic will remain a challenge as it is in other countries but it’s an issue of choice.”
“Should we go ahead with the Msida project or should we foment negative sentiment against it?”
Abela also claimed that the PN’s Msida councillors were initially in favour of the Msida Creek flyover before coming out against it after winning the local council election earlier this year.
The reality is a bit different. While the previous Msida council had unanimously come out in favour of the project as a whole, the PN councillors had expressed concern that the proposed flyover could create a traffic bottleneck at the Msida Skatepark.
