‘What Are You Waiting For?’: Marlene Farrugia Wants Franco Debono To Return To PN

Former politician Marlene Farrugia has become the latest big name to urge the Nationalist Party to welcome Franco Debono back into its fold.

“If the PN wants to win, then Franco and other doers and people of the people need to return to the party,” Farrugia said.

“Franco contested his first election back in 1998, and he has now grown and learned from his mistakes without becoming a parrot of the elite.”

“He has never been accused of corruption, only of wanting to reform the nation. The PN should have representatives from the working class who have achieved success through their own merit, as opposed to jobs that don’t require any work or non-productive work.”

“The PN needs representatives who understand the people and who can communicate with it.”

“The country needs a strong Opposition as much was it needs a clean government. Above all, let the people decide whether they want him or not via an election. What are you waiting for, PN?”

Farrugia served as an MP for three legislatures and played a major role in the PN’s 2017 election campaign as the leader of the now-defunct Partit Demokratiku. In 2017, she became the first person from a third party elected to Parliament since 1962, albeit as part of a coalition with PN.

She has now joined the likes of PN MP Alex Borg and executive member Roberta Bonello in publicly calling for a comeback for Debono, who has said he wants to return to PN.

In a recent interview with Lovin Malta, Debono gave a breakdown of the PN’s longstanding electoral woes and provided a way forward.
