The son of a woman filmed falling with her child while braving a flooded road after her car stopped during a massive downpour has issued a heartfelt message to his mother.

“Today, I saw a lot of people trying to knock you down,” Karl Cauchi wrote on social media.

Footage of the woman stumbling in what was likely a pothole on the Ta’ Xbiex-Gzira promenade flooded social media yesterday.

Some media houses shared the video, but many commenters decried them for sharing the clip, particularly given that the woman was trying to take her child to safety.

“Few know what a big heart you have and how much you’ve sacrificed so that your children managed to reach where we are today,” her son said.

“You’re a person who always tries to solve problems even if she’s stretched. A person who puts the interests of those around her before herself. A person who doesn’t judge people until she gets to know them. A person who shines with empathy.”

“What happened today proved all this.”

“We are living in a papier-mâché world. A world of likes and views. A world that does not deserve a person of integrity and strong values like you. A world that does not know what love means.”

“Thank you for the lesson you gave me today. And remember that you are amazing.”

Heavy rainfall hit Malta yesterday afternoon as a storm veered south from Sicily.

Floods were spotted in Msida and Pieta while rain footage was sent from the likes of Naxxar, St Paul’s Bay and Gozo as the island experienced its first storm after a long dry spell.
