The 23-year-old German woman who died in a tragic accident near the Addolorata Cemetery last night has been named as Laura Paffenholz.

Paffenholz was riding pillion on the back of her Maltese boyfriend’s motorbike in Triq Santa Luċija at around 10:45pm when her boyfriend lost control of the vehicle. The accident reportedly occurred after the young man, a Maltese police officer, encountered gravel and rocks in the middle of the road.

While he escaped unscathed, his girlfriend was run over by a truck driver, identified as a 43-year-old Italian national.

According to TVM, Paffenholz had only been living in Malta for a year and had started dating the motorbike rider seven months ago.
