‘A Genius Who Changed The Country’: Malta Mourns The Death Of Hugo Chetcuti
Tonight, Malta mourns the death of Hugo Chetcuti. At around 9pm, the Paceville mogul and entrepreneur succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was stabbed in the stomach in Paceville last Friday.
The entertainment mogul was stabbed twice outside one of his establishments last weekend and, while his condition was originally believed to have stabilised, the perforation of his stomach had led to an infection.
A main player in Malta’s entertainment industry for the last three decades, Hugo quickly became a beloved figure among people from all walks of life. And if that wasn’t evident already, his passing today put all of that under a spotlight.
Soon after the sad news broke out, many of Malta’s biggest players – both in the entertainment industry and beyond – took to Facebook to offer their condolences to the mogul’s family and look back on all the vital life lessons that Hugo had taught them.
“A great man was taken away from us,” Shoreditch Head Chef and Paceville restauranteur Daniel Grech reminisced. “Hugo was my idol, a genius who changed the country.”
“Today is a very sad day for all involved in the entertainment industry,” Gianpula’s Matthew De Giorgio said, with many remembering how Hugo was always a very down to earth and humble man even with all his successes and riches.
Reflecting on the unpredictability of life and the importance to value each and every single day, ALS Bjorn Formosa took to Facebook to reflect on how, “just a few days ago, I was the dying man sitting next to the most successful businessman in Paceville.”
