“On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was.” A simple and typically forgettable sentence became a cult classic thanks to Lindsay Lohan and one Mean Girls, but 15 years later, did you catch that very obvious Maltese icon?
90s kids and queens alike adore the 2004 rom-com Mean Girls and still watch it religiously a decade and a half later, with a great deal of outfits and quotes still being referred to in today’s pop culture.
From Ariana Grande’s Mean Girls-themed ‘Thank U, Next’ music video last November to countless groups of friends reaffirming that on Wednesday, they wear pink, there’s no escaping that seemingly harmless teen comedy from the Noughties that became a pop phenomenon.
But this year, while you’re busy resharing that clip from Mean Girls, don’t forget to look a little closer…

Yep, that’s an eight-pointed cross on his t-shirt.
Now while there doesn’t seem to be any further info on how a symbol so synonymous with Malta (OK, fine, the symbol of the eight Langues of the Knights Hospitallers, whatever) came to find itself on Aaron Samuels’ t-shirt, we’re still going to take it.
I mean, the Maltese cross emblazoned on one of the most iconic scenes of Mean Girls? Yes please, I’ll use this in every conversation from now on.
