Malta’s Entrepreneurs Competing On The World Stage: Best Company And Start-Up Heading To Istanbul

Students from St Aloysius College and St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education have won the Junior Achievement Malta Company of the Year and StartUp of the Year Awards. 

“Let us create the changes we want to see. Let’s embrace the use the much needed self-efficacy,” said JA Malta CEO Matthew Caruana, congratulating all those who participated, and expressing his thanks to the organisers of the event.

Through these awards, their respective teams have earned the right to represent Malta in finals for Europe’s Largest Entrepreneurship Festival, Gen E, which will take place in Istanbul.

The European finals – which will take place in July – will pit these young Maltese entrepreneurs against representatives from 42 other countries.

The Company of the Year  h2Lo, which won the Company of the Year Award for their product the 2 Litre Motivational Bottle – which is designed to “help you reach your daily water intake goal”.

This product is a reflection of the company’s aspiration to “reach out and remind as many people as possible of the true importance of staying hydrated,” with the benefit of “extensive research which taught us that water intake increases energy, relieves fatigue and is vital to all organs”.

h2Lo also won the Mizzi Organisation Best Sales Technique Award.

Możaic, from St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education Malta, were winners of the Start-up of the Year Award.

This fledgling company creates “adaptive clothing for children with routine care needs”.

The JA Malta Awards Night was held at the University of Malta to reward the hard work of Sixth Form students over the course of eight months.

JA Malta delivers “hands-on, immersive learning experiences in work readiness, financial capability and entrepreneurship”.

Globally, JA impacts the lives of over 10 million young people every year, while on a local level, the organisation has been providing learning experiences to Maltese youth since 1989.

This began with the flagship Young Enterprise programme, but now extends to programmes aimed at people from five to 30-years of age.
