It’s been a long wait for fans of international coffee chain Starbucks, but nine months since first teasing its eventual arrival, the store is finally set to open to the public tomorrow.

Located at the Valletta Waterfront, the first store (undoubtedly of many more to come) was officially inaugurated by Joseph Muscat tonight, and you can grab your first Venti Cappuccino at 10am on Saturday

The local outlet of the international coffee giant is one of the few globally to be built into a historical structure, making it an interesting stop for fans of the brand.

Known for their creative takes on traditional drinks, the brand will be an interesting one to watch as Starbucks often add local flairs to their most popular recipes.

Ahead of the Malta launch, we reached out to Rob Lynch, Vice President of Retail for Starbucks Europe, The Middle East and Africa, to talk about the way forward for the chain on the island… and his favourite drink

“We’re humbled and delighted to introduce the Starbucks Experience to customers in Malta and hope our store will become not only a destination for an exceptional coffee, but also a gathering place for the local community,” Lynch told Lovin Malta. “We look forward to sharing with our Maltese customers our deep pride and enthusiasm for coffee, brewed and served by a world-class team of passionate, knowledgeable baristas.”

And what about his favourite drink?

“My personal favourite is a tall cup of brewed Pike Place Roast,” Lynch says. “It’s a personal reminder for me of our heritage and values.”

Apart from the Valletta store, Starbucks is also set to make another appearance in Mellieħa. “We’re focused on building our brand one store, one neighbourhood at a time,” Lynch said. But as far as rumours of other branches opening, no information was given as of yet. “We’ll be sure to keep you posted though,” Lynch finished.
