Parents Concerned As Żebbug Primary School Road Also Left Without Officer Supervision

Parents have voiced their concerns over the road of a Primary School in Żebbug that has also been left without an officer’s supervision.
This comes after Lovin Malta published an article last week about a similar issue in a street of a primary school in Għargħur, where the mayor also said that it was left without an officer because “police have other commitments”.
“Honestly it’s a mess. Children crossing the road which is still being left open for traffic, cars honking their horns and blocking the road with people arguing with each other; solely because there is no police, TM Officials or Wardens present maintaining order or blocking,” a parent told Lovin Malta.
“As a parent I am referring to the primary school of Żebbug of St Ignatius College, which has several entrances with one of them for year 1 students, being in Triq Sciortino, which is close to the cemetery,”, the parent explained.
Triq Sciortino is being kept open for traffic during the start and end times of school, when it should be closed off to ensure the children’s safety.
The parent also attempted to raise the issue with the local council, but this was not fruitful.
“When enquiring with the local council, parents were being told that there is an issue between TM and the Police hence no coverage is being provided,” the parent said.
The role of an officer in such a situation is to make sure that no cars pass at the time that children are going into the school, as well as to aide any children in need.
In such cases when the entrance of a school is situated on a main road, enforcement of road closure at the times when children are entering or exiting the school should definitely be prioritised, especially given the young age of the students.
