Today, we are learning more about the song entries from Martina Borg, Jasmine Abela, KWINTI, and Petra.

The magic of new love

Martina Borg will be performing the song L-Aħħar Darba written and composed by Pamela Bezzina.

Vocal powerhouse Martina Borg will tug at your heartstrings with a song that talks about a young woman who is very in love but is troubled by her insecurity. She fears the day when the magic of new love fades away and asks her lover to reassure her with words of love and to hold her close as if it was their last time together.

Born to a family of musicians, Martina has had a passion for music from a very young age. She debuted at the age of 13 in a concert with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and did her Vocal training in London at the Academy of Contemporary Music. Martina is a resident singer with Versatile Brass.

Did you know that Martina was the first Maltese to have a Bachelor of Arts in vocal training at the age of 19?

Let’s talk about an icon!

Jasmine is not a new face in the local music scene, she has performed during the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, Rockestra, and even sang for the late Queen Elizabeth in the 2015 opening ceremony of CHOGM. Talk about iconic!

Jasmine Abela will be performing the song M’hawnx Bħalek which is written by Philip Vella and composed by Glen Vella.

M’Hawnx Bħalek is a love song about the ups and downs of romantic love. Every relationship has its good and bad moments, but if one shares a deep connection with their partner, and if we accept each other as we are, love will ultimately prevail.

When she’s not rocking the stage, Jasmine is apparently quite the gourmand. Cooking is one of her great passions, and she likes to experiment in the kitchen to create unique dishes.

The debut of five rising stars

KWINTI will be performing their song Mid-Dinja M’Għandna Xejn, written by Joe Julian Farrugia and composed by Micimago and Pamela Bezzina.

KWINTI is a newly formed group made up of five rising stars that last year took part in the television programme Mużika Mużika – Il-Vjaġġ Ikompli, where they received training in the performing arts. After their guest performance in the 2022 edition, KWINTI knew that they had to try their luck with the 2023 edition, and they have made it to the semis!

This song is one we can seriously relate to! KWINTI sings about balance in life. That even though they are hard-working students, everyone still deserves a bit of fun. And they will be doing just that on the Mużika Mużika stage, as they aim to bring a little joie de vivre to the audience!

When we spoke to KWINTI we found out that they all have a nickname for each other that sound like Friends Episode Titles.  Check them out below!

  • Nedved – The gym boy
  • Tristan – The one who’s always hungry
  • Kayley – The one who never eats
  • Francesca – The oldie
  • Amber – The one who’s always giggling

Our very own rock chick

Petra will be singing the song Miegħek Tiegħek, written by Pamela Bezzina and composed by Elton Zarb

Petra Zammit certainly needs no introduction especially in the rock scene and this rock chick is ready to dazzle the Mużika Mużika audience with a fiery soul piece. This iconic vocalist has performed during several local music festivals, including the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, L-Għanja tal-Poplu, as well as in multiple editions of Rockestra.

And that’s not all, Petra also soared to the finals in the first edition X Factor Malta where she gave a soulful and sultry performance that only she knows how to rock!

Miegħek Tiegħek is a song that describes a woman, who, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, learns to let go of her past relationships and negative experiences, to embrace a new unconditional love.

Fun Fact: We have another chef in our midst! Petra has a deep passion for the culinary arts, which she says was inspired by her grandma’s delicious cooking.

That’s all folks! Stay tuned for more fun facts in the next artist showcase! In the meantime, don’t forget to buy your tickets for Mużika Mużika as they’re selling like hot cakes.
