Watch: It’s Never Too Late! 27-Year-Old’s First-Ever Performance Surprises X Factor Malta Judges

Tonight’s first X Factor Malta contestant impressed the judges and was sent straight to Bootcamp with Four Yeses… even if it was his first-ever performance and he’s 27 years old.

“I’ve been singing since I was a young kid, but I never sang in front of people,” Richard Aquilina admitted before his audition. “My family knows, but my friends and others don’t know. I didn’t tell anyone – they’ll find out now!”

Aquilina went on to perform an exquisite rendition of Dean Lewis’ Half A Man, with the four judges progressively looking more and more impressed by what they were hearing.

Richard was eventually asked to perform another song… but Howard Keith quickly clarified why. “I wanted to confirm a doubt I had, but this is actually the way you sing,” the judge smiled.

Admitting that age should never have a limit, of course, the judges quickly pointed out that, at his age and with his talent, they expected Richard to already be a household name in Malta.

“You should’ve been competing with Gianluca,” Howard joked, with the former Eurovision representative chiming in and saying, “And he’d have won!”

With the judges sufficiently surprised – especially Amber – Richard got the Four Yeses he needed for the next phase, and will definitely be one to watch this season.
