Two 16-year-olds from Valletta and Floriana have just pleaded guilty to an unprovoked gang attack that left a 15-year-old boy with a broken leg.

After their admission, the teens were granted bail, on the basis that adequate measures will now be imposed.

The two males, whose names cannot be published by court order appeared in court again today, after they had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

They were charged with causing grievous bodily harm, causing others to fear violence, attacking them, and insulting them.

The assault, which happened on 21st January at 10pm in busy Merchant’s Street, saw a “gang of thugs” target a group of minors between the ages of 14 and 17.

At least four boys were attacked, with one boy left with a broken leg and grievous injuries, and in need of surgery.

Following the attack, parents across Malta said that they were terrified to send their kids to Valletta for a night out – with Prime Minister Robert Abela also saying he wouldn’t feel safe allowing his 10-year-old daughter to hang out there.
