Enough Evidence For Bill Of Indictment Against Keith Schembri, Yorgen Fenech And Others Over Melvin Theuma Phantom Job

There is enough evidence to issue a bill of indictment against Keith Schembri, Yorgen Fenech and other ministerial staff for providing Melvin Theuma with a phantom government job.
Theuma, who is the middleman-turned-state-witness in the Daphne Caruana Galizia assassination, was awarded the job soon after planning the murder with confessed hitmen Alfred Degiorgio, George Degiorgio and Vince Muscat.
The case threatened to unravel after Theuma refused to testify in the case. However, Magistrate Monica Vella has said that there is enough prima facia evidence for Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg to issue a bill of indictment.
Theuma’s presidential pardon does not extend to this case and he could incriminate himself. However, there exists evidence and documents proving Theuma’s visit and eventual employment.
Rabat Mayor and former head of OPM customer care Sandro Craus, former private secretary at the Family Minister Anthony Ellul, and the former CEO of the Housing Maintenance and Embellishment Co Ltd Anthony Muscat have also been charged in the case.
Theuma, who was given a pardon in return for information on the Caruana Galizia murder, testified in court back in 2019 that he was given a fake government job shortly after arranging the price to kill the journalist.
He said that Fenech had told him to await a call from Craus and that the customer care head then invited him to Castille to meet Schembri.
The infamous photo with Theuma and Schembri was taken that day.
The middleman was granted a government job shortly afterwards at the Housing Maintenance Embellishment Co Ltd, a government company that falls under the Family Ministry.
Theuma said he never wanted the job in the first place and that he never actually reported to work, but that he received monthly cheques nevertheless. The payments stopped three months after the general election.
“I still have no idea what the job was,” Theuma told the court.
The case continues on 25th November.
