Today is national police day – and it’s also the 208th birthday of the Malta Police Force, marking the day since it was established.

For this special day, Lovin Malta has put together a collection of some of the times when Malta’s police shined through the difficult moments and aided citizens in need.

Here are 6 wholesome moments where Malta’s police really deserved some praise for their efforts

1. That time a Maltese constable saved a 4-year-old from getting run over

Maltese constable Charlene Delia was recently awarded for her heroic act after she saved a four-year-old girl from being run over in Rabat.

During the ordeal, Delia actually jumped in front of the car that was about to hit the little girl, in turn saving her life.

2. When two policemen physically stopped a dog fight in Gozo

Two policemen managed to save the day after two Pitbulls attacked a cocker spaniel at the Għasri feast in Gozo.

Thanks to the policemen, the situation fizzled down, as one of the officers was seen physically carrying one of the Pitbulls back to their owner.

3. The wholesome moment an elderly woman was aided to cross the road

A police officer was being praised widely for stepping in to help an elderly lady who needed a spot of help, just a few days ago.

The Malta Police Force shared an image of the woman being shielded and accompanied by the officer, identified as RPC 3022 M. Spiteri – and the post garnered over 2,100 reactions online, with scores of people praising their actions.

4. The Għargħur smiling police famous among summer school children

A smiling officer with a heart of gold won the praise of various parents and their children, who were attending the Għargħur summer school a few years back.

Officer David was described as “simply excellent and always had a massive smile to welcome the young kids and was a familiar face that instilled a sense of trust in the police force from such a tender age”.

5. That one policeman that lifted children across the road in torrential rain

A photo had gone viral in Malta after a Maltese police officer was captured lifting school children across the road to make sure they don’t get soaked in the rain.

The candid snap was initially shared by the official Police Officers Union Facebook page, which praised the officer – PC268 James Farrugia – for the “small but important gesture”, but it didn’t take long for a lot of people to chime in.

6. The policeman that helped a pregnant couple arrive to hospital in time for labour

A pregnant couple heading to the hospital to give birth had found themselves in a spot of trouble when they hit traffic in Mosta – until a kindly police officer stepped in.

An officer who was on his way to start a day of work was approached by a driver while he was stuck in traffic, with the man explaining that his passenger was pregnant and had to be taken to hospital immediately since she was in labour.

“After the officer called for backup, thanks to the cooperation of the drivers present, he managed to escort the couple with his personal motorcycle until they met the Traffic Police who took over all the way to the hospital. Thumbs up to our boy in blue and congratulations to the couple,” the Malta Police Force had said.
