JeanPaul Sofia, a 20-year-old Maltese national, has been found dead following the collapse of a building on a construction site near Kordin this morning.

The young man’s body was found following an extensive 15-hour operation through the rubble and debris, ONE News reported, with emergency workers undertaking a delicate mission in a race against time. 

Five other construction site workers were saved, with three of them suffering from life-threatening injuries due to the collapse.

The five workers recovered have been identified as three Albanian men, one Maltese, and another man from Bosnia, police said.

The construction site, which is close to the Civil Protection Department fire station, collapsed at around 10am this morning.

An inquiry is being led by Magistrate Marseanne Farrugia, while police investigations are still ongoing.
