Finalist For Best MEP Three Years In A Row: Alex Agius Saliba Shortlisted For Prestigious Award
For the third consecutive year, MEP Alex Agius Saliba has been shortlisted as a finalist for “Best MEP of the Year” by Parliament Magazine, which organises annual MEP awards.
“I was honored to have received a vote of confidence yet again for the work that I am doing within the European Parliament,” said Alex Agius Saliba.
“The nomination itself is already an acknowledgment of the work I am doing, and I will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that no one is left behind.”
The Labour Party MEP, and Vice-President of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament has been selected as a finalist for his work in the field of digital strategy within the European Union’s single market.
Though his work towards a pioneering single-charger law has been successful, there have been growing rumours that Apple, in particular, will “comply” with looming EU regulations – but not by using USB-C chargers.
Instead, it appears likely that they will seek to eliminate charging ports on many of their devices altogether.
Agius Saliba is the only Maltese MEP nominated for this year, despite an EU Matrix study ranking Malta’s MEPs as more influential than is expected for a delegation of their size.
It seems that the 35th most influential MEP has a shot at being named the best that Parliament has to offer – even if he doesn’t claim to be in it for the awards – but for the socio-political vision.
“The Europe I’m fighting for is the social Europe that as Socialists and Democrats we believe we want to achieve.”
Despite having been amongst finalists for this award for three years, Agius Saliba has not yet been named Best MEP.
