Michelle Muscat’s Car Was Funded By Taxpayers As Part Of Severance Package, Robert Abela Confirms
Prime Minister Robert Abela has revealed the existence of another part of the severance package granted to his predecessor Joseph Muscat – the provision of a fully expensed car for his wife, Michelle, funded by the government.
Questions raised by PN MP Claudette Buttigieg in parliament prompted Abela to confirm that the car was part of the severance package given to Muscat in December 2019 after his resignation as Prime Minister.
Abela confirmed it is the same car that Michelle Muscat had used while her husband was Prime Minister and that it doesn’t come with a driver.
Muscat received a severance package worth an estimated €120,000 after he was forced to resign in the wake of the 2019 political crisis triggered by the arrest of Yorgen Fenech for the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galzia.
The package has never been published in full, but Abela confirmed last year that it included the use of a former Transport Malta office for his private consultancy business.
