Police have reportedly identified the intended target of last night’s car bomb in Triq Sant’ Antnin, Fgura, as Mario Scicluna, a car dealer who lives in that same street.

The identity of the owner of the Mitsubishi Shogun was revealed by ONE News and reported by other media.

The police and army were called in at around 6:30pm yesterday evening after people reported a “strange sound” underneath the parked car. After identifying the source of the noise as an unexploded bomb, officials from the Explosive Ordinance Unit set about deactivating it.

The car has been taken to the police compound for further investigations. In a statement, the government said it is determined to bring the person responsible for the bomb to justice and pledged to give the security forces all necessary resources to solve the case.
