They’ve Hatched! 60 Baby Turtles Filmed Going For A Swim
Golden Bay’s turtle eggs hatched early this morning and their beautiful first movements were filmed by Times of Malta‘s Mark Zammit Cordina.
Experts say last weekend’s storms could have triggered an early hatching but there were also fears that the rain could risk drowning the fragile eggs.
Thankfully it all ended well under the watchful eyes of environmentalist volunteers.
The turtle eggs were laid on August 1 after which the area was cordoned off as volunteers began 24/7 surveillance.
The last time these endangered turtles were observed nesting, back in 2012, the eggs never hatched.
