Vigil In Memory Of Pelin Kaya Announced For Tonight At KFC Gżira, People Told To Bring Flowers
A vigil in memory of Pelin Kaya has been announced for tonight in front of the Gżira KFC outlet, the scene of the fatal crash.
Speaking with Lovin Malta, a close friend of Pelin’s said that they will be meeting there to commemorate her memory.
“Join us to honour Pelin, a beautiful soul that was taken too soon. Her family, friends, and anyone who wishes will be placing flowers in Gżira where the tragic incident happened,” another friend said.
The vigil will be held at 7pm, and her family will also be present.
People interested in attending are being asked to bring flowers, to be laid down at the site where Pelin was run over on her 30th birthday.
Pelin’s family broke the silence last night outside of court after the beginning of the murder trial, saying that “a part of us has died with Pelin”.
30-year-old Turkish woman Pelin Kaya tragically lost her life after 33-year-old driver Jeremie Camilleri drove into the Gżira KFC outlet, while under the influence of drugs. The incident occurred at around 1am on Wednesday, along Triq Testaferrata in Gżira.
People on site immediately tried to assist her but were met with aggression from Camilleri, who ultimately had to be tased by police in order to contain him.
Charged with murder in court last night, Camilleri has pleaded not guilty, and bail has not been requested as he has been taken to Mount Carmel’s forensic unit.
Camilleri has a criminal past involving everything from robberies, assaults, intimidation, and bomb threats.
