We Have A New Regional Road: Six Lanes Now Connecting North And South Of Malta

Regional Road opened for traffic yesterday, this time with six lanes, one new lane in each direction.
One of Malta’s busiest roads, Regional Road is situated between two major junctions, the Kappara Junction, which was upgraded last year, and the Marsa Junction, which is undergoing major works, including the construction of seven flyovers.

The northbound lane of Regional Road was closed during the evening and night this week due to asphalting works, causing nightmarish traffic jams.
“The challenges of this week’s temporary closure reconfirm this road’s importance to thousands of commuters,” Infrastructure Malta said in a statement. “Now it is safer and more efficient. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Finishing touches, such as signage, crash barriers and some line markings, will be applied to Regional Road in the coming days.
Environment Minister Jose Herrera has also pledged to construct a park over Regional Road, right above the Santa Venera tunnels.
