Police Close Investigation Into AFM Officer Sexual Harassment Case
Malta’s Police have concluded investigations into a case involving allegations of sexual harassment involving an AFM officer while wearing the military uniform.
The case was dropped after it was said that there was not enough sufficient evidence in order for it to go forward in a court of law.
“Kindly note that all necessary police investigations were duly carried out and concluded, however, the legal elements required to prove the alleged offence in a court of law were missing,” a representative for Malta’s Police Force told Lovin Malta.
However, many people have reacted strongly to the news of the investigation being dropped, with former soldier Godwin Schembri writing in a Facebook post that “it’s evident that the officer is being protected by not just the army, but also the entire system of our country”.
“In the same army and under the same Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi that caused a national panic over a video of a gate, an AFM Warrant Officer accused of sexually explicit content while in the military uniform at work, is still in his position,” he said.
“Anyone that protects the corrupt is corrupt themselves,” he said.
This comes after it was recently unveiled that the case went silent after it was said by Sandra Gauci that the case was passed under the Attorney General’s remit.
A right of reply was also given by the accused lawyer’s following the recent developments in the case.
Lovin Malta has seen a series of sexually explicit images and videos sent by the AFM officer in question, who sent the videos while wearing his uniform and allegedly from within the army barracks.
Do you think that the investigation should have been dropped?
