I Will Remain Here: Bernard Grech Vows To Remain PN Leader In First Address After Election Loss
Bernard Grech has said that he will remain PN leader following the party’s election loss.
“I will stay on, to give my service. I will contest the leadership once again to propose an alternative government,” Grech said in a short address.
He said that the party is strong despite the defeat, thanking the thousands who voted for the party.
“We managed a successful campaign despite the power of incumbency, despite cheques being sent out to voters,” he said, insisting the party led a positive campaign.
Early indications show that the Labour Party has won the election by a significant majority over the PN. Grech conceded the election to Prime Minister Robert Abela over a phone call.

Labour Party insiders have suggested that the gap could be similar to 2017. However, an official result will be revealed later today after electronic counting.
The Nationalist Party, as per party statute, will now call a leadership election. It remains to be seen whether anyone will contest against Bernard Grech, who said he would stay on as leader regardless of the result when asked about it ring the campaign.
This is the Labour Party’s third consecutive general election win since 2013. However, this is Robert Abela’s first one as party leader and Prime Minister and the first following Joseph Muscat’s resignation in 2019.
Voter turnout was at 85.5%, down from 92% in 2017. It’s the lowest since 1955.
Should Grech resign?
